SAARC summit billboard in Colombo

The topic of today's Hello Washington was SARRC Summit.

The distinguished guests were Faruq Ahmed Choudhury, Dr. Zillur  Rahman Khan, Dr. Anindya Majumder and Dr. Mizanur Rahman Shelly.

The 15th SAARC summit is scheduled for August 2 and 3 and will end with a declaration on "food security".  

The main theme of SAARC Summit 2008 is "Towards a South Asian Union" while the sub-themes include topics like: women's rights; demilitarisation, denuclearisation and democracy; right to food, livelihood, health, education and social security in the context of alternatives to neo-liberalism; environmental justice and natural resource rights; and South Asian solidarity with anti-imperialist struggles worldwide, terrorism, climate change, and poverty alleviation.
