India Wins First Ever Gold in Olympic

11-August-2008

Abhinav Bindra won India's first ever individual gold medal when he took the men's 10-meter air rifle championship. Finland's Satu Makela-Nummela won the gold in women's trap.

World records have been broken in five swimming events, with American Michael Phelps continuing his quest for eight gold medals at the Beijing Olympics.

Phelps and his American teammates shattered the world record in the four-by-100 meter freestyle relay Monday, with anchorman Jason Lezak touching the wall to set a new record (3:08.24).

President Bush was on hand for the record-setting event. Phelps later qualified for the final of the 200-meter butterfly by winning his preliminary heat in an Olympic record time (1:53.70).
