Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC)
has fined the largest mobile phone operator Gameen Phone LTD $36 million.
BTRC in a statement on Thursday said
that they were fined because the mobile phone company provided E1 connectivity
to third parties enabling the use of Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP).
The
company was fined once earlier in 2007 for similar offence.
