A group purportedly affiliated with Islamic State militants has posted on the Internet what it says are the names, addresses and photographs of 100 U.S. military personnel and has encouraged its supporters in the United States to kill them.
The group, calling itself the Islamic State Hacking Division, wrote on its website that it has "made it easy for you by giving you addresses. All you need to do is take the final step. What are you waiting for?"
The Pentagon said it was investigating and that it has always encouraged men and women in the armed forces to take appropriate protection precautions.
One official told The New York Times that it did not appear that the militants had hacked the information from any U.S. government website and that most of it was publicly available.
