A court in Kuwait has sentenced seven people to death Tuesday in connection with the June bombing of a Shi'ite mosque in Kuwait City that killed at least 26 people and wounded 227 others.
A total of 29 people were put on trial for alleged roles in the blast, which struck the Imam Sadiq Mosque during Friday prayers. Eight defendants were sentenced to between two and 15 years in prison, while 14 were acquitted.
The group included seven Kuwaitis, five Saudis, three Pakistanis and 13 stateless Arabs.
An Islamic State-affiliated group called Najd Province claimed responsibility for the bombing, as well as two others at Shi'ite mosques in Saudi Arabia around the same time.
The Sunni extremist Islamic State group considers Shi'ites to be heretics and has targeted them in attacks across the region.
