Pakistani security officials say at least five Taliban militants have been killed in a U.S. drone strike in the tribal region of North Waziristan.
Authorities say a U.S. drone fired two missiles Saturday in the Datta Khail district, which is a hub for al-Qaida and Taliban militants.
A senior security official said none of the dead have yet been identified and the death toll is likely to rise.
Pakistani troops have been conducting a major operation against local and foreign militants since June.
Elsewhere in Pakistan, the military say at least five militants have been killed by security forces on the outskirts of Peshawar. Officials say a local militants commander was among those killed.
