The suspect in a deadly shooting spree in the northern U.S. state of Michigan is due in court Monday to be arraigned on multiple counts of murder.
Authorities arrested 45-year-old Jason Dalton early Sunday in connection with the shootings late Saturday around the city of Kalamazoo that left six people dead and two others wounded.
Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Getting said someone randomly killing people for no reason was "every community's nightmare."
Dalton worked for the ride-hailing service Uber. The company's Chief Security Officer Joe Sullivan issued a statement saying Uber is "horrified and heartbroken at the senseless violence" and has offered to help investigators in any way possible.
Authorities are investigating whether Dalton picked up any Uber passengers during the shooting spree. They said he was in contact with more than one person during that time, but that no one else is being charged.
No known motive
Authorities say the violent spree began at an apartment complex where a woman was seriously wounded when shot multiple times. Hours later, the gunman killed a father and son looking at vehicles at a car dealership.
Minutes after that, five people were gunned down in a parking lot at a restaurant. Four of them died. A 14-year-old girl, originally reported as dead, was hospitalized with serious injuries.
No motive has been given for the shootings. Local media reports that Dalton may have dropped off an Uber fare passenger in between his attacks.
Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Getting says Dalton will face multiple counts of first degree murder and attempted murder when he appears before a judge in a Kalamazoo County courtroom on Monday.
