Police in southern Iraq say a suicide bomber has detonated his explosive-rigged minibus at a security checkpoint, killing at least 22 people and wounding more than 120 others.
Officials say the blast, which set many cars ablaze, was set off Sunday at the northern entrance of the Shi'ite-dominated city of Hillah, about 100 kilometers south of Baghdad.
There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack.
Iraq has been experiencing its worst violence in recent years, driven primarily by widespread discontent among its Sunni Arab minority and by the civil war in neighboring Syria. More than 1,400 people have been killed this year.
