Freed American hostage Jill Carroll has arrived in the United States after being held for nearly three months in Iraq.

The freelance journalist landed in Boston Sunday on a flight from Germany, where she was flown after being released Thursday.

Before arriving in Boston, Ms. Carroll released a statement saying her captors in Iraq forced her to make a video speaking out against the U.S. presence in Iraq. The journalist says she was told she would be released if she made the video.

Carroll also thanked those in the U.S. and Iraqi governments who worked to secure her release. She also expressed gratitude to the U.S. military and her fellow journalists.

In the statement, Carroll also referred to the interview she gave to the Iraqi Islamic Party shortly after her release. She said the party promised the interview would not be shown on television, but the party broke its word. She said that out of fear of retribution, she told the interviewer she had not been threatened by her abductors, but that was not true.
