Security officials say two bombs have exploded outside Algeria's capital, wounding several people.

Officials say a suicide bomber blew himself up near a military barracks in the Lido neighborhood of Bordj El Kiffan, an eastern suburb of the capital, Algiers. Witnesses say a second blast occurred outside a nearby cafe.

There is no immediate word on who carried out the attack.

An al-Qaida group claimed responsibility for a double suicide car bombing in Algiers last December that killed 37 people, including 17 United Nations staff members.

Foreign ministers from 11 countries are expected to meet in Algiers on Thursday to discuss the idea of a Mediterranean Union, aimed at boosting trade and relations between the European Union and North Africa.
