Four Bosnian Serbs Arrested for 1992 Massacre

14 October 2008

Authorities in Bosnia-Herzegovina have arrested four Bosnian Serbs suspected of taking part in the executions of more than 200 civilians during the Balkan conflict of the 1990s.

Prosecutors for the country's war crimes court said the four, Ljubisa Cetic, Gordan Djuric, Milorad Skrbic, and Milorad Radakovic, face charges of crimes against humanity.  Four other Bosnian Serbs linked to the massacre were arrested earlier this year.

The 1992 massacre on Mount Vlasic was part of an early wave of ethnic cleansing as Bosnian Serb forces battled Croats and Muslims during the breakup of the former Yugoslavia.

Prosecutors say the victims, mostly male, were taken from detention camps around the town of Prijedor and told they were being delivered to areas held by Muslim and Croat forces.  Instead, Serb forces shot and killed them and threw their bodies into a deep ravine.

Some information for this report was provided by AFP, AP and Reuters.
