Congolese opposition leader Etienne Tshisekedi told VOA Sunday that he is the country's rightful president, and he will take the oath of office on Friday.
According to Democratic Republic of Congo election officials, Tshisekedi lost to incumbent Joseph Kabila in last month's presidential elections. But on Sunday, Tshisekedi repeated his assertions that voting counts were flawed and that voters actually elected him to the highest office.
International election observers have expressed concern about voting irregularities during the polls, which DRC government officials said showed Kabila capturing 49 percent of the vote and Tshisekedi 32 percent.
On Sunday, Tshisekedi urged his supporters in DRC to remain calm and create a climate of confidence for foreign investors in the mineral-rich Central African country.
