Afghanistan's Interior Ministry says gunmen have attacked a construction company east of the capital, wounding one person and taking nine security guards hostage.
In a statement Tuesday, the ministry said unknown militants took the hostages Monday in Surobi, about 30 kilometers east of Kabul.
The attack came on the same day a man believed to be an Afghan Border Police officer killed six U.S. troops at a training facility in northeastern Afghanistan near the Pakistani border.
U.S. officials who declined to be identified confirmed that the six NATO troops killed in the incident were Americans.
A NATO statement says a gunman wearing an Afghan Border Police uniform turned his weapon on NATO troops during a training mission. The statement says the assailant was killed during the attack.
NATO has not confirmed the identity of the assailant and said a joint Afghan-ISAF team is investigating the incident.
In other violence Monday, NATO said a joint Afghan-NATO patrol killed numerous insurgents after multiple engagements in northeastern Kunar province.
A NATO statement says the joint force called for artillery and air support and that initial reports indicate that some 20 insurgents were killed.
