스위스 제네바에서15일 열린 그루지아와 러시아 간 분쟁 종식 회담은 '절차 문제'를 이유로 개최 직후 결렬됐습니다.

유엔과 유럽연합, 유럽안보협력기구 OSCE 등은 이날 비공개 회담을 후원했습니다. 그루지아 측 대표는 러시아 대표단이 본회의에 참석하지 않았다고 밝혔습니다.

주최측은 회의가 11월 중순에 다시 열릴 것으로 잠정 계획됐다고 말했습니다.

이번 회담은 지난 8월 양국간에 발발한 전쟁으로 인한 긴장이 해소되는 계기가 될 것으로 기대돼 왔습니다.

러시아는 그루지아의 두 자치구인 남오세티아와 압하지아 대표도 회담에 참석해야 한다고 주장했지만 그루지아가 이에 반대함에 따라 이날 회담은 주로 기술적인 견해차를 조정하는 수준에 그칠 것으로 예상됐습니다.

러시아 군은 남오세티아 자치공화국의 통제권을 무력으로 장악하려던 그루지아를 8월 7일 침공했습니다.

Talks on the Georgia-Russia conflict ended shortly after they began Wednesday in Geneva, over what international sponsors described as "procedural difficulties."

The United Nations, the European Union and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe sponsored today's closed-door meeting. The Georgian delegation said Russian representatives failed to show up for a scheduled plenary session.

Organizers say talks have been tentatively scheduled for mid-November.

The meeting was organized in the hope of easing tensions from the five-day Russian-Georgian military conflict in August over the pro-Russian breakaway region of South Ossetia.

Authorities had said today's meeting would be limited to technical issues, after Georgia opposed Russian demands for the presence of officials from South Ossetia and a second pro-Russian region, Abkhazia.
