Ukraine's parliament has called on President Leonid Kuchma to withdraw the nation's 1,600 peacekeeping troops from Iraq.
The non-binding measure was approved by 257 lawmakers Friday.
Ukraine's is one of the largest contingents in the U.S.-led coalition in Iraq, and many Ukrainians want it withdrawn.
Rival presidential candidate, opposition leader Viktor Yushchenko and Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych, have both called for the withdrawal.
Meanwhile, Poland's Defense Minister says a Ukrainian withdrawal would deal a fresh blow to the multinational division his country commands in Iraq. Jerzy Szmajdzinski said the Ukrainian troops are currently deployed in a key province along the Iranian border and would have to be replaced because the frontier must be guarded.
