Indonesian Vice President Plays Down Discovery of Arsenic in Soup

Indonesian Vice President Yusuf Kalla is playing down the discovery of a small amount of arsenic in bowl of soup that was to be served to him.

Police are investigating the matter, but Mr. Kalla said he did not think it was an attempt to intentionally poison him.

The soup was prepared for Mr. Kalla at a hotel in Bali, where he is attending a conference of Indonesia's powerful Golkar political party. The Indonesian vice president is challenging incumbent Akbar Tandjung for Golkar's leadership.

Party members are expected to elect a leader Saturday or Sunday.
