Four More Years Begin with Ceremony, Tradition

President Bush was sworn in Thursday to his second term in office. A few highlights from the Inauguration ceremony:

“I, George Walker Bush, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States… so help me God.”

With his family by his side, Mr. Bush took the oath of office for his second term as President.

Then in his inaugural address he spoke of America’s vulnerability after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 and said the best hope for peace at home was freedom for others around the world: “The survival of liberty in our land increasingly depends on the success of liberty in other lands. The best hope for peace in our world is the expansion of freedom in all the world.”

Mr. Bush acknowledged the country’s political divisions, still fresh from the November election.

“I will strive in good faith to heal them. Yet those divisions do not define America. We felt the unity and fellowship of our nation when freedom came under attack, and our response came like a single hand over a single heart.

May God bless you and may He watch over the United States of America.”
