Federal Appeals Court Agrees to Consider New Petition in Schiavo Case

A federal appeals court in Atlanta, Georgia has agreed to consider a petition by Terri Schiavo's parents for a new hearing on whether to reconnect their severely brain-damaged daughter's feeding tube.

The ruling was issued early Wednesday, nearly two weeks after a Florida judge approved removal of the feeding tube.

Since then, courts have repeatedly rejected her family's efforts to have it reconnected.

Tuesday, a family spokesman said the Reverend Jesse Jackson is trying to persuade three Florida state senators to change their votes on a measure that would allow the state to intervene.

Doctors say the 41-year-old woman has been in a persistent vegetative state for 15 years, and her husband insists she would not want to be kept alive artificially.
