Coalition for Unity and Democracy supporters give the party's victory sign and wave Ethiopian flags |
Witnesses and reporters in Addis Ababa say some 250,000 people attended the event in the city's central square.
At the same place the day before, Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi's ruling party, the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front, staged its own rally ahead of the May 15 vote.
The leader of Ethiopia's opposition Coalition for Unity and Democracy, Hailu Shawel, told the crowd today it is time to end the ruling party's 14 years in power. He says the government has failed to combat poverty and create jobs.
Ethiopia's opposition says its supporters have been intimidated, arrested, and even killed in the run-up to the election.
