Iran's new foreign minister says Tehran will not return to a full suspension of nuclear fuel activities and warned against referring the issue to the U.N. Security Council.
Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki made his comments at a news conference Sunday.
Mr. Mottaki reiterated Iran's position that it will not stop uranium processing. He also rejected a European threat to refer Tehran to the U.N. Security Council for possible sanctions as a no-win situation. He warned such a move would result in certain consequences, but he did not elaborate.
European negotiators have been trying to convince Iran to totally abandon nuclear fuel work in exchange for a package of trade, diplomatic, security and technological incentives.
The United States accuses Iran of using its nuclear program as a cover to secretly produce nuclear weapons. Tehran says it only wants nuclear technology to produce electricity.
