Cypriot tennis player Marcos Baghdatis has surged 27 places in the men's world rankings after finishing second in the Australian Open in Melbourne.
Baghdatis lost Sunday's final to world No. 1 Roger Federer of Switzerland, but his surprising performance at the two-week Grand Slam tournament lifted him from No. 54 in the world to No. 27.
Australian Lleyton Hewitt, who lost in the second round of the tournament, fell five places to 11th. It's the first time he has been out of the top 10 since June 2004.
Holding down the second through fourth spots are Rafael Nadel of Spain, American Andy Roddick and Argentina's David Nalbandian. Croatian Ivan Ljubicic moved up three places to number five this week.
Rounding out the top 10 are Russian Nikolay Davydenko, Argentina's Guillermo Coria, compatriot Gaston Gaudio, American Andre Agassi and Spain's David Ferrer.
Russian Marat Safin, who was unable to defend his Australian Open title because of an injury, fell 39 places to 50th.
