World Cup Football: Mexico, Netherlands, Portugal Win Their Matches

update

The Netherlands' football team has won its Group C match while Portugal and Mexico captured their Group D matches Sunday at the World Cup in Germany.

In the late game in Cologne, Portugal had a harder time than expected against World Cup newcomer Angola. After starting strong with a team-record 47th goal from Pauleta in the fourth minute, Portugal turned sluggish and was happy to come away with the 1-0 victory.

Earlier in Nuremberg, Mexico scored two second-half goals to defeat Iran 3-1. Omar Bravo gave Mexico a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute, before Yahya Golmohammadi tied the score for Iran eight minutes later. But Bravo tallied again in the 76th minute and Zinha added an insurance score just three minutes later to give Mexico the 3-1 victory.

In the first match of the day, Arjen Robben scored the only goal of the Group C game in the 18th minute as the Netherlands shut out Serbia and Montenegro 1-0 in Leipzig. The Dutch squad is tied for first place in the group with Argentina.
