At Least 30 Bodies Found in Mainly Sunni Arab Area of Baghdad

update

Iraqi police say at least 30 bodies have been found in a mainly Sunni Arab area of Baghdad.

Officials Saturday said the badly decomposed bodies were discovered in the Dora neighborhood. The remains were taken to a mosque, then handed over to the police.

In other developments, an Iraqi government spokesman, Ali al-Dabbagh, says Iran has been "showing more restraint" as part of its pledge to stop the flow of fighters and weapons into Iraq.

Earlier, the U.S. military said coalition forces Saturday killed seven suspected terrorists, including three wearing suicide vests, and detained 10 suspects in raids targeting terror networks in central and northern Iraq.

Friday, hundreds of U.S. forces raided two villages south of Baghdad to hunt for militants believed to be linked to the kidnapping of two American soldiers.

The military Saturday said the operation in the villages of Owesap and Betra was intended to lay the groundwork for a coalition presence in the area. It said no suspects were killed or captured.

The two American soldiers were kidnapped by insurgents May 12 in an ambush near Mahmoudiya. Four U.S. troops and an Iraqi interpreter dead were killed in the attack. The body of a third kidnapped soldier was found nearly two weeks later in the Euphrates River.

Some information for this report was provided by AFP, AP and Reuters.
