Iraqi police say a car bomb has torn through a market and killed at least eight people near the western city of Fallujah.
Officials say around 30 others were wounded when the car rigged with explosives went off at sundown Tuesday in the town of Amiriya. It was the second large bombing in as many days in Anbar province.
On Monday, Iraqi police said a suicide bomber entered a funeral tent and detonated explosives in Haditha, killing six mourners and wounding 15.
Iraq's Anbar province was once an insurgent stronghold. But violence there greatly decreased after local Sunni tribes sided with the U.S. military in 2006 to fight against al-Qaida.
In other news, Iraqi security forces arrested six suspected terrorists Tuesday, including two suspected terrorist cell leaders.
A U.S. military statement said Iraqi troops with U.S. advisors arrested four people during operations in Tarmiya, about 30 kilometers northwest of Baghdad. The statement said one of the suspects was a key member of a network responsible for car bombs in the region.
Two more people were detained near Tuz Khurmatu, located about 65 kilometers south of Kirkuk. One of the suspects, Badr Sarhan Shihan, was said to be the regional leader for al-Qaida's Islamic State of Iraq.
Also Tuesday, the U.S. military said an American soldier died of a non-combat related injury in southern Iraq.
