Ashlee Simpson is the younger sister of pop star Jessica Simpson. With her harder rock style, Ashlee has accomplished a feat that has eluded Jessica ? reaching Number One on the Billboard magazine albums chart.
Ashlee Simpson, 19, is following in the footsteps of her sister, Jessica. She toured with her older sister as a back-up dancer when she was 14; she's had early success; and, like Jessica, Ashlee is starring in her own reality television show. She also has a role in another TV series, 7th Heaven. Her big musical break came when she recorded a song for the soundtrack of the Disney film, Freaky Friday.
Unlike her older sister, Ashlee has a deeper, rougher voice and a sexier pop-rock sound. And, her Autobiography album beat the first-week sales of Jessica's latest effort, In This Skin. Addressing the comparisons to her sister, Ashlee comments, "I'm so proud of Jessica. She's an amazing artist with a beautiful voice. But I have never listened to the kind of music that she does. We're both doing music, but in very different ways, and it's cool."
Ashlee Simpson wrote or co-wrote the 12 songs on her debut album, including her hit single, "Pieces of Me." And, citing classic rock influences such as Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders, Pat Benatar, Joan Jett and the late Janis Joplin, Ashlee isn't afraid to be provocative with her lyrics.
Songs on Ashlee Simpson's Autobiogrphy explore young adulthood, first love, heartbreak, identity and sexual awakening. "I'm 19 and I'm going through some defining moments in my life," she explains. " I've tried not to hold anything back. I guess I should apologize to all of the boys that I've used for inspiration. I wasn't going to make a record unless I could write on every song. It makes a difference to speak from your own experience."
Ashlee is the new spokesperson for the Candie's line of designer footwear, clothing and accessories, and will be prominently featured in their upcoming advertising campaign. She'll also perform a live concert for Candie's customers and make personal in-store appearances at retailers in major cities across the U.S. The dates will be scheduled around filming for The Ashlee Simpson Show, which has been documenting her rise in the music industry.
