British Court Approves Terrorist Suspect's Extradition To US

update

A British court has approved the extradition of a British citizen wanted in the United States on suspicion of seeking to set up terrorist training camps in the western U.S. state of Oregon.

Judge Timothy Workman said Thursday he was satisfied that the grounds for extraditing Haroon Rashid Aswat were proper. He said the final decision rests with British Home Secretary Charles Clarke.

Defense lawyers had argued that Mr. Aswat should not be extradited to the United States because he would face what they called "an overwhelming risk" of being held in solitary confinement without trial.

U.S. authorities want to question Mr. Aswat over alleged attempts to set up terrorist training camps in Bly, Oregon, in the Pacific Northwest. Mr. Aswat has denied the charge.
