Myskina Upsets Davenport, Advances to WTA Tour Championship Semifinals

French Open champion Anastasia Myskina of Russia has upset world number one Lindsay Davenport to advance to the semifinals of the Women's Tennis Association Tour Championships in Los Angeles, California.

Myskina dismissed Davenport of the United States in straight sets 7-5, 6-4 in Friday's Red Group round robin play. She will play Red Group leader, American Serena Williams, in Saturday's semifinals.

In Black Group round robin action Friday, Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova of Russia, and Frenchwoman Amelie Mauresmo both advanced, and will face off in the semifinals.

Sharapova knocked off countrywoman Vera Zvonareva in straight sets 6-4, 7-5, and Mauresmo defeated U.S. Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova in a two-set match 6-3, 6-2.

The WTA tournament features eight players split into two groups of four, with round-robin play in each group. The top two players from each group advance to the semifinals.
