Report: Progress on Peace Talks Could Boost Aid to Palestinians

update

A published report in the United States predicts international financial assistance for the Palestinian Authority could double if elections in the West Bank and Gaza take place on schedule next month, and if the Palestinians take steps toward resolving their conflict with Israel.

The New York Times estimates up to $8 billion in aid from the United States, Europe and Arab nations could go to the Palestinian Authority over the next four years if those conditions - successful elections and progress toward peace - are met.

The Palestinian Authority has been facing a severe financial crisis, primarily due to declining tax revenues, and the Palestinian economy has been paralyzed during the past four years of violence in the West Bank and Gaza.
