Bangladesh police have arrested a professor who allegedly rented an apartment to the perpetrators of the cafe attack in the capital that left more than 20 people dead earlier this month.
Gias Uddin Ahsan, a professor at Nourth South University in Dhaka, has been detained along with his nephew and apartment manager for failing to register the tenants' information as required by law when they moved in in May.
Ahsan was arrested late Saturday for "renting the house to the Gulshan (cafe) attackers and hiding information," police said in a statement, adding that the men had "gathered at the flat" before the attack.
Police recovered sandbags at the apartment, which they suspect were used to hide grenades and other explosives, according to the statement.
The three men are expected to appear in court Sunday.
Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the cafe attack where gunmen entered the Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka and killed 20 hostages as well as two police officers on July 2.
