Chinese authorities said an attacker stabbed five people to death in the central city of Changsha, in Hunan province, before police fatally shot him.
Police say a vendor in a market fatally stabbed another peddler during an argument on Friday, then slashed four bystanders as he fled the scene before officers killed him.
Two of the four victims died at the scene and the other two died in a hospital.
The incident came two weeks after the March 1 knife attack at a train station in southwestern China that killed 29 people. The government blamed that attack on Muslim Uighur separatists from Xinjiang.
