At least 14 concert-goers were killed in Seongnam, South Korea, when a ventilation shaft’s grate on which they were standing collapsed. Police officials inspect the scene Oct. 17, 2014.

At least 16 people are dead after a ventilation grate they were standing on collapsed at a concert near the South Korean capital, Seoul.

Officials say 11 others were injured in the accident at an outdoor performance of the popular girls' band 4Minute, in the city of Seongnam south of the capital.

South Korea's prime minister, Chung Hong-won, made a visit Friday to the scene and was briefed by emergency officials.

Concert-goers fell at least 30 meters into a concrete air shaft connected to an underground parking garage.

More than 700 people were attending the outdoor performance.

South Korea is still recovering from the April ferry sinking that killed over 300 people, mostly high school students.
