US President Barack Obama delivers a statement on the economy at the press briefing room at the White House in Washington, US, May 6, 2016.

In his weekly address, President Barack Obama recognized all mothers in celebration of this upcoming Mother's Day, including his wife, Michelle Obama.

Obama urged everyone to "take a moment to say thank you to the women in your life who love you in that special way mothers do. Biological moms, adoptive moms, and foster moms; single moms, grandmoms and godmothers; aunts and mentors – whomever you think of when you think of Mother’s Day."

He emphasized giving all parents the support they need by providing paid maternity and paternity leave, sick leave, accommodations for workers who are pregnant, good health care, affordable child care, flexibility at work, equal pay, and a decent minimum wage.

He called on Congress to give meaning to Mother's Day by taking action on these items.
