Another contingent of National Guard members from New York is preparing to depart for Puerto Rico to help the U.S. territory recover from Hurricane Maria.
New York Army National Guard officials say 125 members of the Buffalo-based 152nd Engineer Co. of the 204th Engineer Battalion are now scheduled to depart Thursday morning from the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station. The departure was originally scheduled for Wednesday.
The unit's heavy construction equipment has already been sent to the Caribbean island aboard a ship from New Jersey.
The New York Army National Guard currently has about 200 soldiers in Puerto Rico providing security and helping to repair the island's utility grid and other infrastructure that was devastated by last month's Category 5 hurricane.
Twenty members of the New York Air National Guard are helping with airport operations and aircraft maintenance on the island.
