South Korea is reporting its first official case of the mosquito-borne Zika virus.
The country's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Tuesday a 43-year-old man who recently traveled to Brazil tested positive for the virus.
Yonhap news agency says the man has been quarantined and treated at a hospital in Gwnangju, located more than 300 kilometers south of Seoul.
The Zika virus, which has been detected mainly in Latin America, is a generally mild, harmless infection. But it has been linked to over 4,000 of cases in Brazil of microcephaly in babies, a birth defect in which babies have unusually-small heads and brains.
The World Health Organization has declared the outbreak of the Zika virus as a global health emergency.
