A U.N. panel said North Korea is using sophisticated means to avoid international sanctions imposed by the Security Council.
The report, released Tuesday, said Pyongyang's embassies in Cuba and Singapore are suspected of facilitating the countries banned arms trade, including a shipment of fighter jets and missile parts seized in Panama last year.
The eight member panel also accuses North Korea of using more complicated financial countermeasures to hide illegal deals.
Cho Tae-young, spokesman for South Korea’s Foreign Ministry, said Seoul will enhance its cooperation with the international community to effectively implement sanctions against the North. “This panel report, with concrete and comprehensive information, is expected to contribute to effectively implementing U.N. Security Council resolutions against North Korea. South Korea, as a member of U.N. Security Council, will enhance cooperation with the international community to effectively implement sanctions against the North,” Cho Tae-young said.
North Korea faces numerous U.N. sanctions over its missile and nuclear weapons program.
