Hurricane Douglas is bringing heavy rains and surf as it passes near the islands of Oahu, Kauai and Niihau in the U.S. state of Hawaii, while the remnants of what was Hurricane Hanna dump flooding rains on northern Mexico and southern Texas.
The National Hurricane Center said parts of Hawaii, including Oahu which is home to state capital Honolulu, should expect seven to 15 centimeters of rain overnight into Monday, bringing the threat of flash floods and landslides.
Douglas had maximum sustained winds of about 140 kilometers per hour early Monday.
Tropical Depression Hanna is expected to weaken enough to lose its tropical designation Monday but continue to present a threat in the form of heavy rain and potential flooding.
Forecasters said the biggest risk is in the Mexican states of Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, and Tamaulipas, where rainfall through Monday could reach 15 to 30 centimeters.
Hanna hit the Texas Gulf Coast as a Category 1 hurricane Saturday, with heavy rain and fierce winds challenging a state already strained by the coronavirus outbreak.
Officials had evacuated some COVID-19 patients inland to other hospitals to make room for any storm-related emergency cases.
Hanna knocked out power to parts of south Texas, destroyed boats and flooded streets, but no deaths or serious injuries have been reported in Texas or Mexico.
