Egyptian Teaches Arabic to Washington Schoolchildren

There is no national mandate for Americans to learn foreign languages. While schoolchildren in other countries often learn at least one other language as part of their curriculum, kids in the US may not have that opportunity depending on the requirements of their school districts.
