Thirteen people accused of membership in an Islamist group suspected in bomb attacks in Spain and Morocco have gone on trial in Brussels.
The suspects, who are of Belgian and Moroccan origin, appeared in court Thursday.
Prosecutors say the defendants are members of the Moroccan Islamic Combatant Group. The group is suspected in last year's train bombings in Madrid, Spain, that killed 191 people and the 2003 Casablanca bombings that killed 45.
The suspects face five to 15 years in prison if convicted. None are accused of direct involvement in the bombings.
The trial is the first under a new Belgium anti-terror law that makes it a crime to associate with terrorists.
