Pinochet Hospitalized After Suffering a Stroke

Former Chilean military ruler Augusto Pinochet has been hospitalized after suffering a stroke.

In a statement released Saturday, the Military Hospital of Santiago said General Pinochet's condition has improved, and he is in stable condition.

The general has been repeatedly hospitalized with a number of health problems.

The development comes one day after the Santiago Court of Appeals delayed until Monday a decision on an arrest warrant for General Pinochet.

Earlier this week, a Chilean judge (Juan Guzman) ruled the 89-year old former ruler was mentally fit to stand trial, and charged him with one count of murder and nine counts of kidnapping.

His decision reversed earlier court rulings declaring General Pinochet unfit to stand trial on charges of human rights abuses committed during his 17 year rule.
