Pakistan Asks US to Investigate Soldier's Killing in Firing Across Afghan Border

Pakistan has asked the U.S. military in Afghanistan to investigate a cross-border shooting that killed one Pakistani soldier and wounded three.

Pakistani spokesman, Major General Shaukat Sultan, said about 25 mortar shells were fired Sunday into Pakistan's North Waziristan, a semi-autonomous tribal region that borders Afghanistan's Khost province.

He said it was not clear who on the Afghan side of the border fired the mortars.

U.S -led coalition forces have thousands of troops in Afghanistan searching for remnants of the ousted Taleban and al-Qaida.

Pakistan is a key ally in the U.S. led war against terrorism.
