Atlanta Courthouse Killer Still on the Loose

A massive manhunt is under way in the southeastern U.S. state of Georgia for a man who shot and killed three people in an Atlanta courthouse Friday, including the judge hearing the man's rape case.

Police say that while Brian Nichols was being escorted to an eighth-floor courtroom, he overpowered a sheriff's deputy, took her pistol and shot her in the forehead, leaving her seriously wounded. The suspect then ran into the courtroom and briefly held several people hostage before gunning down the judge and court reporter.

While escaping from the courthouse, the suspect shot and killed a deputy who tried to stop him.

The fugitive allegedly stole several vehicles, including a small car, to elude police. Authorities eventually found the car parked a short distance from where it had been stolen.
