North Korea Demands US Apology for 'Tyranny' Label

The speaker of North Korea's legislature, Choe Tae Bok, had demanded the United States apologize for labeling his country an "outpost of tyranny."

Speaking at a conference of regional lawmakers in the Philippines, Mr. Choe also asked U.S. officials to drop what he called a "hostile policy" aimed at regime change in North Korea.

He said the dispute over North Korea's nuclear program is a result of U.S. policies toward the Communist dictatorship.

Last week, a North Korean official demanded that U.S. officials remove all nuclear threats from the Korean peninsula before new talks on the nuclear issue.

The United States says it has no nuclear weapons on the peninsula, and has repeatedly asked Pyongyang to return to six-party talks.
