British Religious Leaders Express Solidarity After Attacks

Muslim, Christian, Jewish leaders meet in a show of unity

British religious leaders have expressed solidarity as the nation struggles to deal with last week's terror attacks in London.

Muslim, Christian and Jewish leaders met Sunday in a show of unity. Sheik Zaki Badawi read a joint statement expressing their shared commitment to overcoming terrorism.

Earlier at a service attended by Queen Elizabeth and Prime Minister Tony Blair, Archbishop Rowan Williams condemned what he called "the spirit of murder and humiliation."

British police said Sunday that hate crimes directed against Muslims had increased some since the attacks, including one resulting in a serious injury.

Officials have not named any suspects, although Islamic extremists took credit for the bombings.

Birmingham was returning to normal after 20,000 people were evacuated from the city center Saturday night. Officials said they acted on a specific and credible threat.
