5 Dead in Israeli Train Collision

Israeli authorities say a commuter train has hit a truck, killing five people and injuring at least 60 others.

Police say the train was traveling from Tel Aviv to the northern port city of Haifa Monday, when it slammed into a truck that was stopped on the tracks at a road crossing. The impact derailed the first two passenger carriages.

Witnesses say the truck driver was able to get out of his vehicle safely before the collision.

The accident is the most serious in Israel since last June, when several people were killed and more than 100 injured in a collision between a packed commuter train and a truck south of Tel Aviv.
