Lebanon's prime minister has revised the death toll from an Israeli airstrike on a border village, saying only one person died instead of 40.
Fuad Siniora earlier Monday told Arab foreign ministers that the airstrike on Houla killed more than 40 civilians. But hours later, he put the death toll at one.
Israeli airstrikes in other parts of southern and eastern Lebanon killed at least 23 people Monday, including five who died in strikes on an apartment complex in Tyre.
Israeli warplanes also hit Hezbollah strongholds in southern Beirut and the Bekaa Vally.
Israeli ground troops are also fighting Hezbollah guerrillas in southern Lebanon. Israel says one soldier was killed today in the town of Bint Jbail.
Israeli Defense Minister Amir Peretz says Israeli troops will broaden their offensive if diplomatic efforts to end the fighting fail to make progress.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah militants fired another barrage of rockets into northern Israel, wounding at least one civilian.
Israeli media report that Israel's military has asked Prime Minister Ehud Olmert for permission to expand its targets in Lebanon to include the country's vital infrastructure. Israeli Agriculture Minister Shalom Simhon says he supports moving deeper into Lebanon to destroy Hezbollah infrastructure.
