London to Washington Flight Diverted for Unruly Passenger

A United Airlines flight from London to Washington was diverted Wednesday to an airport in Massachusetts because of an apparently claustrophobic passenger.

U.S. authorities and transportation officials say fighter jets escorted Flight 923 to Boston's Logan airport. The flight was carrying 182 passengers and 12 crew members.

They say there was an altercation between the flight crew and a woman who said she was claustrophobic.

Initial media reports stated the woman had a screwdriver, matches and a note referring to al-Qaida, but officials later denied the claims.

Television reports showed police with sniffer dogs inspecting baggage from the plane after it landed.

The disturbance comes just a week after police in London foiled a terror plot to blow up planes from London to the United States.
