White House Disappointed Iran is Limiting IAEA Cooperation

The White House says it is disappointed by Iran's decision to limit cooperation with the United Nations nuclear agency.

White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe says the international community wants to find a solution with Iran to the impasse over its nuclear program.

Iran said it would scale back cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency Sunday, a day after the U.N. Security Council imposed more sanctions on Tehran.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says Iran will not stop its nuclear program, which he called peaceful and legal.

The Russian company (Atomstroiexport) building Iran's Bushehr nuclear power plant said Monday Iran has made its first payment for the construction. Russia and Iran have been at odds over payment for the plant.

The sanctions approved Saturday ban all Iranian arms exports and freeze the assets abroad of 28 Iranian people and institutions believed to have ties to nuclear weapons.

The new sanctions also set a 60-day deadline for Iran to stop enriching uranium. Failure to comply could result in more sanctions.

The United States and its allies accuse Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons. Tehran denies the charge.
