The National Basketball Association's Sportsmanship Award for this season goes to Chicago Bulls forward Luol Deng.
The award is voted on by players and goes to the one who exemplifies the ideals of sportsmanship on the court - ethical behavior, fair play and integrity.
Deng received no flagrant or technical fouls all season.
He is also involved in numerous charities and the NBA will donate $25,000 on his behalf to Pacific Garden Mission, the oldest continuously operating rescue mission in the United States.
The Sudan-born Deng received 2,027 in the balloting to edge Shane Battier of the Houston Rockets, who received 2,005. Points were given for the top six places to represent the six NBA divisions, and Battier actually had more first place votes than Deng (65 to 52).
Luol Deng was five-years-old when his family fled Sudan for Egypt after the government was overthrown. They eventually settled in England, where his parents still live.
Deng spent his high school years in New Jersey and went to Duke University for one year before entering the NBA.
His Chicago Bulls are set to take on the Detroit Pistons in a second round NBA playoff series. The NBA's sportsmanship award is named for the Detroit club's president, Joe Dumars, who was the first recipient of the honor in 1996.
