Ugandan authorities have issued an arrest warrant for the country's former health minister and have arrested two of his former deputies in connection with embezzlement charges.
The three are accused of playing a role in the disappearance of at least $1.6 million from a childhood immunization fund.
Police announced Tuesday that former junior health ministers Mike Mukula and Alex Kamugisha have been arrested. They say they are searching for the former health minister, Jim Muhwezi, who reports say may be in Britain.
Muhwezi is a longtime ally of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.
All three health officials were relieved of their duties last year amid a separate scandal involving the mismanagement of funds.
