El DeBarge was arrested August 26 for investigation of domestic violence. The 46-year-old pop singer - real name Eldra DeBarge - was arrested in Lancaster, California, said Deputy Eric Eitner of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Details surrounding the arrest were not released.
Web site TMZ.com reports that while the Los Angeles County District Attorney has rejected the domestic violence charge, DeBarge still faces several outstanding warrants ranging from vandalism to drugs to driving with a suspended license. He will reportedly remain jailed until he appears in court at a date to be determined.
DeBarge was arrested in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1996 and ordered to pay back child support for his daughter.
Ten years earlier, the Michigan native pleaded no contest in Grand Rapids to charges of assaulting a female college student.
A representative for the singer couldn't immediately be found for comment.
El DeBarge enjoyed chart success in the 1980s, both as leader of the family R & B act DeBarge and as a solo artist.
